Greta: “Let’s grow, together”

Greta was looking for more practical, community based opportunities after completing her studies in political science. She found the Pedagogy for Change programme which she completed in 2019. She shares some of her insights about the programme in the video below.

12 months in Denmark:  
A dialectic dialogue

“During the first 12 months of the programme I worked at an alternative school in Western Denmark, PTG International Youth College. There, I learned a completely different pedagogical methodology, so different from the mainstream one that I have previously encountered.

We worked with a pedagogy that takes into consideration the necessity to have different teaching approaches for different students; that pushes them to be conscious and critical about what they study, and that emphasises the importance of the ‘learning by doing’ concept.

It is a pedagogy based on a dialectical dialogue between teacher and student where both are learners and teachers simultaneously, creating and exchanging knowledge.”

8 months in Malawi:
Working as equals, side by side

I spent eight months in Malawi volunteering with DAPP Malawi in rural areas where the people live in really poor conditions and where often there is very little support from the government or NGOs.

This experience completely opened my eyes to how privileged we are in Europe, but also how much we can use this privilege to make an impact – as long as we work as equals, side by side.”

Currently, Greta is teaching the Climate Activist team at DRH Lindersvold and will be teaching the Pedagogy for Change teams starting there in 2020.
